The Spa Project

I enjoy a relaxing day at a day spa, but not just any massage room with a few candles, playing new-age music will do. I like to soak in the unique atmosphere of its settings; a mind and body escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city; to carry me away to a relaxing, and serene place.

There are certainly plenty of day spas around New York City, but one of my favorites is Silk Day Spa - an urban oasis located at 13th street downtown of Manhattan. As I stepped down the 'Silk Steps' that lead me to the Relaxation Room, I immediately feel the tranquility from its East meets West decor. Perfect mood lightings cast over the soft gauzy fabric tents, bamboo stalks, and Asian seating are a delight to the eyes. Flavored water, special teas and jelly beans are offered for your own enjoyment. There are many other treatment rooms: Rain Room, Steam Room, Soak or Scrub Rooms for various treatments from their menu.

Silk Spa offers a variety of Western massage techniques that blend perfectly with the Eastern philosophy. Using the Asian practice of Acupressure to balance the Ki (' chee ') to calm the mind and energize the body to promote wellness. My favorite is the 'Silk Melt Away Massage', and 'Shiatsu-Ki Massage' often combined with Reflexology - I feel like floating on air or walking on soft rose petals after every session - all my senses are rejuvenated!

Other beauty treatments such as facials, scrubs, mani/pedicure are offered as well as Pre-natal, and Sports Massages. I heard that the 'Silk Emperor/ Empress Signature Treatment' are fabulous for two.
